New Homes for Barry

Work will start shortly on a £3.8m development which will provide 27 much-needed new homes in Barry.

The one and two bedroom apartments in Woodlands Road will help to meet a high demand for homes in the area and are being developed by Hafod in partnership with the Vale of Glamorgan Council and contractors M & J Cosgrove Ltd.

From the 1980’s the site was used as a children’s play area that sadly fell into disuse after the redevelopment of Central Park, and was eventually closed in 2004.

Due for completion at the end of 2018, the new homes will be available to rent and will offer a range of energy and cost saving features to help reduce running costs for tenants.

The project is funded by a mixture of Welsh Government Social Housing and Housing Finance Grant.

Hafod has invested over £13m and provided over 100 new homes in the county in past three years. This includes the Vale’s first extra care scheme, Golau Caredig in Barry, and homes for affordable rent and low-cost home ownership.

Alan Morgan, Managing Director said:

“We own and manage over 700 homes in the County and are committed to delivering a major programme of affordable housing. We currently have a further 100 homes in the pipeline including developments in Barry and the rural vale.”
