Landlady marks 22 year partnership with Hafod Housing Association
Joan’s decision to let her property with us has made a significant difference to over 23 vulnerable families, including 38 children over the years, who were in great need of a home.
On a recent visit to Ty’r Fesen, a purpose-built short term family accommodation facility in Caerphilly, Joan was able to see how they support people who find themselves homeless. Lee Clapham, manager of Ty’r Fesen, explained how they work in partnership with Hafod who provide the temporary accommodation until a permanent home is found for them.
Speaking at the occasion, Joan said “I’m so pleased to be a part of such an important project which has enabled me to help so many people at a challenging time in their lives.
"I like the fact that Hafod is responsible for the everyday running of the property including any general repairs such as internal decoration, leaking taps and garden maintenance as well as the general cleanliness of the property and surrounding area, which leaves me to get on with my everyday life without worry that my property is falling apart.
"I am confident and happy that I made the right decision in letting my property to Hafod, I couldn't have asked for a better stress-free service and I am always kept informed - I know my property is in safe hands with them.”
Many tenants do not wish to rent properties from letting agents due to the excessive fee's charged, Cartrefi Hafod do not charge tenant fees as they are looking to provide them with a more affordable option.
We aim to reduce the social housing waiting lists by letting in the private sector. This means we can offer vital affordable housing options for vulnerable people in the local area whilst also offering landlords a long term rental solution, from a fully managed service or just finding tenants.
Diana Turner, Private Sector Manager said: “Landlords like Joan offer such a valuable resource to the association and the local authority when they lease their properties to us for use as temporary accommodation.
“The lack of affordable housing in Wales has put excessive pressure on the limited social housing stock that is available."
“Joan is a pleasure to work with, without her and landlords like her many families would not have had the opportunity to rebuild their lives and move on to settled permanent homes.”
